Hello,
I have high astigmatism and visual snow syndrome. When using Spotify, the white text on dark backgrounds often appears blurry or “burned” due to the strong contrast.
Sometimes the text even looks doubled or surrounded by halos, and even with my glasses on, this causes eye strain and headaches.
On platforms with pure-black dark themes, my symptoms become even stronger and I can’t use them at all.
And the issue still appears quickly when I’m browsing the music library, checking my playlists, or reading any text in the interface. I don’t need to use the UI for long periods for the symptoms to appear.
Because of this, I would like to suggest an accessibility option:
Adding a light mode to the Spotify interface, since dark text ( or grey) on a light background causes less visual strain for people with my condition.
Alternatively, using slightly gray text instead of pure white in dark mode to reduce contrast in some menus.
I also understand that introducing a light mode even if it isn’t the default might feel unnecessary or unusual to some users and can hurt the brand consistent.
However, as long as it’s an optional setting rather than the standard interface, I believe only people who truly need it would enable it, making it a helpful accessibility feature without affecting others.
I know this is a more specific issue, but I still felt it was important to share. I tried contacting support, but I couldn’t find an accessibility category to open a ticket under.
Thank you for your attention!
