Option to stream in Lossless quality while keeping lower download quality

Dear Spotify team,

I really enjoy using Spotify, but I’ve run into a frustrating limitation with the quality settings.

At the moment, I can set download quality and streaming quality separately, but once a track is downloaded, Spotify will always play the downloaded version — regardless of the streaming quality I’ve selected.

This means that if I download my music in High Quality (to save storage space), I can no longer listen to that track in Lossless over Wi-Fi — even though that’s exactly what I’d like to do.

It would be a huge improvement if Spotify allowed:

  • downloads to remain at a lower quality, but
  • automatically stream the lossless version when on Wi-Fi.

This way, I could save space on my device while still enjoying the full lossless experience whenever possible.

I hope you will consider adding this feature in a future update, as it would significantly improve the listening experience.

It's a shame, though, because lossless used huge amounts of data, which makes the acoustics audible. If you listen to classical music often, this is the first thing you'll miss. Apple Music sometimes sounds even better, but there isn't that much HD, and the App is really worthless.

Today, for the 2nd time in a week, Spotify is shutting down again."

I was extremely disappointed and immediately cancelled my subscription, but a correction is a must! The cause of the glitches WAS due to the servers that could not deliver the data stream at that time.

Spotify has been working perfectly in the Netherlands for days now, the sound quality is addictive, I only watch TV in the evening.

Spotify really listened to the wishes, the best option that is not mentioned is what I appreciate the most.

You've chosen an album you want to hear, and when it ends, Spotify automatically selects the next track, so you're truly getting what you want.

Spotify has turned into a radio that not only broadcasts in CD quality, but automatically makes the right choice.

In short, a radio without talking and/or advertising.

Spotify better not ignore this! ESPECIALLY if they want to raise prices again like I've heard!

Unlikely to happen folks, just think how much money this saves them and the majority of people won't even notice.

Spotify Premium has this option, go to the settings, there you can check the options!

Dutch-Elvis, I honestly think you are a bit confused on how it works or you have some setting no one else has. Can you please screenshot this setting?

Before you do, download a few songs in low quality and then check if you can still play them in lossless. Doesn’t work for me. I can ONLY play lossless on songs that has not been downloaded.

@xandercornelius Click on the red icon/settings and privacy /Media quality

The options are listed here.

You can never hear something downloaded at 128kb/s losslessly

You can listen losslessly via WiFi

When you put something in the library you will hear it lossless /  when you click click on the down arrow it will be downloaded in the checked option downloaded 128kb/s

If you want to hear this offline, click on library and the options will appear, choice downloaded and you hear 128kb/s, the lossless version logically not the downloaded one.

I hope you enjoy listening!

@Dutch-Elvis What is so difficult to drop a Picture in here?!

You can literally choose an option which states "Insert Photos" or even "Insert Video"

@tofo29 This tablet doesn't have a SIM card, and using it via an iPhone is very difficult. I'm having trouble with my fingers. But it's not disinformation, just give it a try. If I were to post a screenshot you would get the options inverse images.

By the way, I don't know if lossless listening is possible in your country. Not all servers are yet suitable for lossless.

tofo29

yes it is possible in Germany,

but as all other people in this thread said you can listen to losslosss music when you don't have them downloaded but as soon as you download the songs it switches to the downloaded ones when you are connected to wifi or mobile network and you can not change this.

Although in the settings you can choose what quality you want for all 3 cases but only the downloaded one is used if downloaded and connected to wifi.

It could be an easy fix, but Spotify doesn't listen to us.
