We’re proud to celebrate a major sustainability milestone in Europe's green building landscape. Chiesi Farmaceutici’s R&D Centre in Parma has achieved LEED v5 O+M: Existing Buildings Gold certification with 63 points! Making it the largest O+M certified project in Europe (to date) and the first LEED v5 O+M certified laboratory in the world. At 29,839 sqm, the Centre shows how a demanding, research-driven facility can raise the bar for environmental performance. This certification was powered by Chiesi’s long-standing commitment as a Certified B Corp, a thorough EU Taxonomy–based risk and opportunity review, and a climate strategy fully woven into everyday operations. Together, these efforts strengthened performance across LEED v5’s new Integrative Process, social impact requirements, EU Taxonomy Pilot pathways, and decarbonisation credits. Chiesi’s commitment to a 99.6% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 demonstrate real progress toward its Net Zero goals. Combined with targeted efficiency upgrades, comprehensive climate planning and a focus on people and well-being, the R&D Centre now stands as a reference point for the next generation of sustainable labs in Europe. Ciao Milano! 👋 🇮🇹 😎 Nicole and Grit have been in Milan this week for more venue and location recces for GBCI Europe Circle 2026 – Europe's annual LEED community reunion. But how much do you actually know about this amazing Italian city? Here are a few fun facts for you! ⛪️ Milan’s Duomo took nearly 600 years to complete and is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. (Check out the photo of Nicole and Alberto Ballardini from BIP with the Duomo in the background!) 💶 Milan is Italy’s economic powerhouse and ranks as the country’s second-largest city by population. 🏙️ The Pirelli Tower in Milan was once the tallest building in Italy and was the country's first true skyscraper. ♻️ Milan leads Italy in sustainability initiatives, with a number of innovative green buildings and eco-districts. 🌱 Notable is the Bosco Verticale, a pair of residential towers covered in thousands of trees and plants, which help tackle city pollution and reduce energy consumption with natural insulation. It's time for another 'Credit of the Month' video! 🎬 In case you missed our first post last month, this is a new series where we highlight what’s new in LEED v5 prerequisites and credits, with a focus on the benefits for users in Europe. This month, we’re looking at the new LEED v5 Platinum requirements. Boomerang Athens earns Greece’s first LEED® Platinum Certification for a residential project. 👏 👏 👏 The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is pleased to recognise Boomerang Athens as the first residential project in Greece to achieve LEED® Platinum certification. This milestone marks the country’s first single-family residence to earn a LEED certification and its first to reach the highest level of performance under the LEED rating system. This achievement reflects the vision and collaboration of a multidisciplinary team committed to transforming ambitious sustainability goals into measurable outcomes. The project was designed and developed by ECLÉDE, led by Vassilis Siafaricas, Managing Director, with LEED Green Rater services provided to the highest standards by Katerina Vagianou, Managing Director of EnviroSys Ltd. Significant and additional support was offered by Sandra Bär and a broad group of dedicated associates. Boomerang Athens demonstrates leadership across key performance areas that LEED evaluates and rewards, including energy efficiency, water stewardship, indoor environmental quality, materials and resources, and site strategies. Aligned with the objectives of the EU Green Deal, the project establishes a new benchmark for high-performance residential design in the region. Beyond its certification, Boomerang Athens serves as a well-documented case study, strengthening the value proposition for homeowners, developers, and design professionals, and helping convert sustainability ambition into verified, certified results. With combined expertise in sustainable design, development, and certification, ECLÉDE and EnviroSys Ltd continue to support clients in achieving their environmental goals and creating lasting value for communities. We’re delighted to share that Sugar Valley in Munich-Obersendling has been awarded LEED v4 Neighborhood Development (ND) Platinum certification — one of the highest distinctions in sustainable urban design. This recognition places Sugar Valley among an elite group of neighbourhood-scale projects worldwide: It is only the second LEED ND certification in Germany, both located in Munich. It is the first and only ND Platinum project in the country. And across Europe, only one other LEED v4 ND Platinum project exists, in Spain, achieving the same top score. Sugar Valley embodies what the LEED ND system stands for: an integrated approach to sustainable development across land use, mobility, energy, ecology and community life. Not just individual buildings, but the entire neighbourhood ecosystem.
