2025-07-01Use pg_ascii_tolower()/pg_ascii_toupper() where appropriate.Jeff Davis
Avoids unnecessary dependence on setlocale(). No behavior change. This commit reverts e1458f2f1b, which reverted some changes unintentionally committed before the branch for 19. 2024-12-24Remove pgrminclude annotationsPeter Eisentraut
Per git log, the last time someone tried to do something with pgrminclude was around 2011. Many (not all) of the "pgrminclude ignore" annotations are of a newer date but seem to have just been copied around during refactorings and file moves and don't seem to reflect an actual need anymore. There have been some parallel experiments with include-what-you-use (IWYU) annotations, but these don't seem to correspond very strongly to pgrminclude annotations, so there is no value in keeping the existing ones even for that kind of thing. So, wipe them all away. We can always add new ones in the future based on actual needs. Discussion: https://www.postgresql.org/message-id/flat/2d4dc7b2-cb2e-49b1-b8ca-ba5f7024f05b%40eisentraut.org
2019-08-18Avoid conflicts with library versions of inet_net_ntop() and friends.Tom Lane
Prefix inet_net_ntop and sibling routines with "pg_" to ensure that they aren't mistaken for C-library functions. This fixes warnings from cpluspluscheck on some platforms, and should help reduce reader confusion everywhere, since our functions aren't exactly interchangeable with the library versions (they may have different ideas about address family codes). This shouldn't be fixing any actual bugs, unless somebody's linker is misbehaving, so no need to back-patch. Discussion: https://postgr.es/m/20518.1559494394@sss.pgh.pa.us

2017-02-25Remove useless duplicate inclusions of system header files.Tom Lane
c.h #includes a number of core libc header files, such as <stdio.h>. There's no point in re-including these after having read postgres.h, postgres_fe.h, or c.h; so remove code that did so. While at it, also fix some places that were ignoring our standard pattern of "include postgres[_fe].h, then system header files, then other Postgres header files". While there's not any great magic in doing it that way rather than system headers last, it's silly to have just a few files deviating from the general pattern. (But I didn't attempt to enforce this globally, only in files I was touching anyway.) I'd be the first to say that this is mostly compulsive neatnik-ism, but over time it might save enough compile cycles to be useful.
2016-06-16Fix validation of overly-long IPv6 addresses.Tom Lane
The inet/cidr types sometimes failed to reject IPv6 inputs with too many colon-separated fields, instead translating them to '::/0'. This is the result of a thinko in the original ISC code that seems to be as yet unreported elsewhere. Per bug #14198 from Stefan Kaltenbrunner. 2003-06-24 Add ipv6 address parsing support to 'inet' and 'cidr' data types.Bruce Momjian
Regression tests for IPv6 operations added. Documentation updated to document IPv6 bits. Stop treating IPv4 as an "unsigned int" and IPv6 as an array of characters. Instead, always use the array of characters so we can have one function fits all. This makes bitncmp(), addressOK(), and several other functions "just work" on both address families. add family() function which returns integer 4 or 6 for IPv4 or IPv6. (See examples below) Note that to add this new function you will need to dump/initdb/reload or find the correct magic to add the function to the postgresql function catalogs. IPv4 addresses always sort before IPv6. On disk we use AF_INET for IPv4, and AF_INET+1 for IPv6 addresses. This prevents the need for a dump and reload, but lets IPv6 parsing work on machines without AF_INET6. To select all IPv4 addresses from a table: select * from foo where family(addr) = 4 ... Order by and other bits should all work. Michael Graff

2000-06-14Big warnings cleanup for Solaris/GCC. Down to about 40 now, butPeter Eisentraut
we'll get there one day. Use `cat' to create aclocal.m4, not `aclocal'. Some people don't have automake installed. Only run the autoconf rule in the top-level GNUmakefile if the invoker specified `make configure', don't run it automatically because of CVS timestamp skew.
