7 daysUse palloc_object() and palloc_array() in backend codeMichael Paquier
The idea is to encourage more the use of these new routines across the tree, as these offer stronger type safety guarantees than palloc(). This batch of changes includes most of the trivial changes suggested by the author for src/backend/. A total of 334 files are updated here. Among these files, 48 of them have their build change slightly; these are caused by line number changes as the new allocation formulas are simpler, shaving around 100 lines of code in total. Similar work has been done in 0c3c5c3b06a3 and 31d3847a37be. Author: David Geier <geidav.pg@gmail.com> Discussion: https://postgr.es/m/ad0748d4-3080-436e-b0bc-ac8f86a3466a@gmail.com
2025-09-30Do a tiny bit of header file maintenanceÁlvaro Herrera
Stop including utils/relcache.h in access/genam.h, and stop including htup_details.h in nodes/tidbitmap.h. Both these files (genam.h and tidbitmap.h) are widely used in other header files, so it's in our best interest that they remain as lean as reasonable. 2024-03-04Remove unused #include's from backend .c filesPeter Eisentraut
as determined by include-what-you-use (IWYU) While IWYU also suggests to *add* a bunch of #include's (which is its main purpose), this patch does not do that. In some cases, a more specific #include replaces another less specific one. Some manual adjustments of the automatic result: - IWYU currently doesn't know about includes that provide global variable declarations (like -Wmissing-variable-declarations), so those includes are being kept manually. - All includes for port(ability) headers are being kept for now, to play it safe. - No changes of catalog/pg_foo.h to catalog/pg_foo_d.h, to keep the patch from exploding in size. Note that this patch touches just *.c files, so nothing declared in header files changes in hidden ways. As a small example, in src/backend/access/transam/rmgr.c, some IWYU pragma annotations are added to handle a special case there. 2023-01-10New header varatt.h split off from postgres.hPeter Eisentraut
This new header contains all the variable-length data types support (TOAST support) from postgres.h, which isn't needed by large parts of the backend code. 2019-05-22Phase 2 pgindent run for v12.Tom Lane
Switch to 2.1 version of pg_bsd_indent. This formats multiline function declarations "correctly", that is with additional lines of parameter declarations indented to match where the first line's left parenthesis is. 2017-01-17Generate fmgr prototypes automaticallyPeter Eisentraut
Gen_fmgrtab.pl creates a new file fmgrprotos.h, which contains prototypes for all functions registered in pg_proc.h. This avoids having to manually maintain these prototypes across a random variety of header files. It also automatically enforces a correct function signature, and since there are warnings about missing prototypes, it will detect functions that are defined but not registered in pg_proc.h (or otherwise used). 2016-08-23Fix network_spgist.c build failures from missing AF_INET definition.Tom Lane
AF_INET is apparently defined in something that's pulled in automatically on Linux, but the buildfarm says that's not true everywhere. Comparing to network_gist.c suggests that including <sys/socket.h> ought to fix it, and the POSIX standard concurs.
2016-08-23Create an SP-GiST opclass for inet/cidr.Tom Lane
This seems to offer significantly better search performance than the existing GiST opclass for inet/cidr, at least on data with a wide mix of network mask lengths. (That may suggest that the data splitting heuristics in the GiST opclass could be improved.)
