Seems to be related to this esptool issue. Will soon be fixed and next version will have updated esptool. In a mean time you can downgrade to 3.2.0 which uses older esptool.

Just a note: Many reasons can cause this error, some of them and possible fixes are mentioned in the troubleshooting guide. Without more information it's impossible to say if this was caused by a bad USB cable or a regression in esptool.
