As we mark Geographic Atrophy (GA) Awareness Week, we are celebrating the many perspectives that remind us why sight matters. GA is an advanced and irreversible form of age-related macular degeneration that causes progressive vision loss. It is estimated to affect approximately 5 million people around the world. Earlier this year, on World Sight Day, we launched our internal #TheBestThingsInLifeAreSeen2025 competition to highlight the moments our colleagues treasure and how our eyes help us take in the richness of life and the experiences that matter most. With entries received from around the world, we were grateful to partner with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), who supported the judging and helped us select this year’s winner and runners up. Their reflections capture the power of vision and the importance of our shared commitment to those living with GA. ●The Milky Way, as seen from a state park, Indiana, U.S. – Matt I’ve worn glasses my entire life and I remember how scary it was to realize I couldn’t see the front of the room in school as a young boy. I’m a Boy Scout leader and tell my Scouts all the time to get their eyes up (and off their phones!). Our trips take us away from the city lights – and on a good, clear night we can be rewarded with shooting stars, satellites, or even the Milky Way, pictured here. I hope that this inspires others to pause, eyes up, and look for the things we don’t typically get to see.  ●Red-crowned cranes at Zhalong National Nature Reserve, China – Lingyan  Eyes are among the most vital avenues through which we attain direct experience. In August this year I made my travel visit to Zhalong National Nature Reserve in China, the world’s largest sanctuary for red-crowned cranes. As depicted in the picture, the harmonious beauty of the red-crowned cranes and the natural landscape there ... left an indelible impression. We ought to treasure our eyes and protect eye vision, just as we value our health and time. ●Train through the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway in Europe - Carly I feel so much joy in all that I get to experience with my eyes. I am sharing this particular photo because it represents me taking it all in. In this photo I am looking out a train through the Jungfraujoch – the highest railway in Europe. There is so much beauty in this world, both big and small. I am guilty of taking my ability to see it for granted, but this World Sight Day reminded me just how lucky I am. Thank you to everyone who took part and shared the moments that inspire the work we do every day.
