After a few days on the ground at COP30 Brazil, I left Belém with mixed emotions. The science is sobering: we are now on track to exceed 1.5°C within the next decade. But this COP also felt different. More honest and grounded in the realities of the Global South, more willing to confront uncomfortable truths. What struck me most: - A first-ever government-led roadmap to phase out fossil fuels and end deforestation. - A new political home for the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative with a global phase-out conference next year in Colombia. -During a panel I joined on scaling energy solutions, one message came through clearly: the fossil fuel phase-out will take time but energy efficiency delivers impact today.
