Thunderbirds pilot injured in fiery crash during training mission
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Thunderbird pilot ejected safely from their aircraft during a training mission in California Wednesday.
According to San Bernardino County Fire, emergency crews responded with fire suppression to the downed aircraft in a dry lake bed near Trona around 10:45 a.m. The pilot inside ejected during a training mission over controlled airspace and received on-site care for non-life-threatening injuries before being transported to a nearby hospital.
Trona Airport officials confirm the pilot is a ”female Thunderbird pilot."
Nellis Air Force Base officials said she is currently stable and called the aircraft “a total loss.”
Firefighters note there is no threat to the surrounding community or vegetation from the fire.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
