LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — With the gift-giving season approaching, the Henderson Police Department has a warning about e-bikes: They are not toys.

The department is launching a citywide enforcement campaign. It’s in response to more crashes involving e-bikes and e-scooters.

This year alone, Henderson police have responded to 40 crashes involving e-bikes. Last year, police saw 25 crashes with e-bikes, including two fatal crashes.

The campaign will run through Dec. 12. Throughout the enforcement, HPD will provide informative flyers and postcards to help educate riders and parents of the rules surrounding e-bikes.

Police say anyone caught riding illegally could be cited with the following violations:

  • Unregistered motor vehicle - $415
  • Not having proper insurance - $740
  • Driving without a valid license - $415
  • Riding without proper headgear and protection - $195
