One dead after high-speed crash in central Las Vegas, impairment suspected
Police say impaired driver failed to stop at intersection, killing 46-year-old North Las Vegas man
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man died Saturday after a suspected DUI crash in central Las Vegas.
Around 9 p.m. on Saturday, investigators said a Mercedes vehicle was heading east on East St. Louis Avenue at a high rate of speed as it approached South 6th Street.
According to witness statements, on-scene evidence, and surveillance video, a Ford vehicle traveling south on 6th Street stopped at a posted four-way stop before entering the intersection, police said.
Detectives say the Mercedes failed to stop, entered the intersection at a reckless speed, and struck the Ford.
Medical personnel pronounced the Ford’s driver, identified as Julio Nave-Giron, 46, of North Las Vegas, dead at the scene.
The Mercedes driver, identified as Rogelio Camacho, 41, of Las Vegas, was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries. Investigators said Camacho was impaired, and officers booked him into the Clark County Detention Center on reckless driving and DUI-related charges.
The investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing, police said.
