Mi Escuelita, a therapeutic preschool located in San Diego, offers essential support for young children who have faced domestic violence and family trauma. The program includes on-site mental health care, play-based therapy, and social-emotional learning, actively involving families in the healing process. Through methods like small group sessions, individual play therapy, and trauma-informed classrooms, children can show significant improvement within just a few months. Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with Flavio Corsi Mendez from Senator Adam Schiff ’s office to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing early learning providers like Kidango, as well as the importance of strong, equitable federal grant systems that truly support nonprofits on the front lines. We also shared how the recent Region 9 Office of Head Start closure has impacted grantees across the West, including families and educators who rely on timely federal support to continue providing quality early childhood education. Conversations like these are critical reminders that advocacy is not just about policy; it’s about people. Every improvement in the grant process or investment in early learning directly affects the children, families, and educators who make up our communities. Grateful to Sen.
