We’re excited to share that more than $30 million in new commitments will help power APFJ’s first-of-its-kind local news program to strengthen the U.S. local news ecosystem. With generous support from the Knight Foundation, Lilly Endowment, and the MacArthur Foundation, the AP Fund for Journalism will bring AP’s trusted journalism and newsroom services to hundreds of communities across the country — helping local outlets reach wider audiences, engage their communities more deeply, and set the stage for long-term sustainability. This investment builds on our successful pilot program, enabling us to extend AP services to 100 additional newsrooms in 2026 — and to ensure more Americans have access to reliable, nonpartisan local reporting. During the 2025 Fourth of July flooding along Texas’ Guadalupe River, fourteen Kerrville ISD bus drivers and coaches courageously drove their school buses into rising waters, despite damaged bridges and treacherous conditions, to rescue some 900 children and counselors trapped at Camps La Junta, Mystic, and Waldemar.
