Thanks to Engineering News-Record for capturing the extraordinary work underway at the Castro Theater, where CAW Architects, Inc., Page & Turnbull, EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc., Alarcon Bohm, The Shalleck Collaborative, and Another Planet Entertainment are preparing this vibrant working theater venue for a new era. When we last shared an update, Crane Day, through ANCO IRON & CONSTRUCTION INC, the new structural steel was being set on the roof. Six months later, you can now see the cleaned and restored painted ceiling and gold proscenium, along with the structural work Kevin Bohm describes: new roof reinforcement for the upgraded HVAC system and the small, planned openings in the restored ceiling where chains will run to suspend the lighting and speaker trusses. All of those suspended elements are anchored to the structural steel placed on the roof. It’s rewarding to see how the work installed earlier is now supporting the next layers of restoration and performance infrastructure.
We are thrilled to share Engineering News-Record's recent story highlighting our ongoing restoration work of San Francisco’s iconic Castro Theater. Led by Chris Wasney, FAIA, and Project Manager Keith Wainschel, LEED-AP, our team has been privileged to work in collaboration with Page & Turnbull and restoration specialist EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc. The new theater is scheduled to reopen with a two-week residency by musician Sam Smith in February 2026. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gfZixXg3.
