Growing up with ADHD and struggling in traditional learning environments, I knew early on that college wasn’t going to be the right path for me. That felt like a limitation for a long time — until I found aviation. This industry makes room for every type of learner and problem solver, and that’s exactly why Girls in Aviation Day means so much to me. Returning for my second year representing CAPS Aviation was incredibly special. So many young women don’t realize how many doors aviation can open, no matter their background or learning style. One of my favorite parts of the day was sharing how broad aviation really is. It’s not just aircraft and airports — it includes medical professionals, technology leaders, pilots, operational experts, and so many unique paths. I loved talking about our collaboration with Skali Inc., whose team includes a surgeon, a pilot, a med-tech leader, and a Silicon Valley–level technology architect. It shows these girls that aviation is bigger and more diverse than they ever imagined. Sharing this day with my daughters made the event even more meaningful. Watching them explore and feel welcomed into the aviation community reminded me how important it is for girls to see women leading, teaching, flying, fixing, innovating, and shaping the future of aviation. A big thank-you to Hayden L. Christie for interviewing me and to Adolfo Melendez, a CAPS Aviation team member for seven years, for joining me in the video. I also want to recognize South Texas Business Aviation Association (STXBAA) – South Texas Business Aviation Association, where Hayden volunteers and I proudly contribute as a corporate member and sponsor. Thank you to Women in Aviation International for hosting such an empowering event, to the women featured in the video (Firefly Aerospace, CSI Aviation, Inc - Medical Flight Services, Texas A&M University–Central Texas and The Ninety-Nines, Inc.®, International Organization of Women Pilots of Central Texas) for their inspiring comments, and to all the volunteers who made the day impactful for the next generation. I hope these conversations inspire more girls to see themselves in aviation — especially those who don’t think they “fit the mold.” Aviation has a place for you. #GirlsInAviationDay #WomenInAviation #WAI #AviationEducation #BusinessAviation #AviationCommunity #CAPSAviation #SKALI
Girls in Aviation Day in Austin was amazing, I was honored to be invited for my second year representing South Texas Business Aviation Association (STXBAA). With a little girl at home who always wants to see what I’m doing in my office and who calls every plane she sees flying “daddy’s plane” I am so proud of this event and seeing the advocation for more women in our industry. This year I didn’t just want it to be my voice heard so I decided to do something different and new to me and interview some of the amazing people who volunteered along side me today to hear there thoughts on the importance of Girls in Aviation Day. I hope you enjoy this video from today’s event. CAPS Aviation, Firefly Aerospace, CSI Aviation, Inc - Medical Flight Services, Texas A&M University–Central Texas
