AARP - Lobbying and Lobbyist - Just Info

I am not posting this for any reason other than just information.  Information about the workings of our government and how to find specific info on legislation, its origin and who is involved in its promotion - the lobbyist - who they are and who they represent.

Lobbying is pretty much a standard thing for non-profits and other groups to fight for their constituents / members /beneficiaries or likeminded individuals for their advocacies. But it also more than that - from lobbyist, members of Congress can gather information pertinent to the legislation - reports, data, stories of those who may need help and why.

If you are a member of such a group or have an interest in where the lobbying money goes and to what purpose, this is a good beginning point to get a lot of information.  I thought I would just use this group - AARP - as an example of the info that can be found on Open Secrets - in general.

Open Secrets.org - AARP Profile - Lobbying

Seems this is pretty complete thru 2024 or thru the 118th Congress.

It shows the legislation # - House or Senate  - and the name of the legislation.  Each one is clickable to give a bit more info on each of the legislations put forth for  an advocacy or supported purpose.

Keep in mind that bill numbers change when a new Congress is convened since they have to be re-introduced into the legislative body again.  The 118th Congress ended at the end of 2024 and is gaveled out on the 1st working day of the new session.  We are in the 119th Congress now for the period of 2025 - 2027.

There is plenty of info on each piece of legislation for anybody to review that’s in the reports and special issues or Bill Profile relating to each piece of legislation.

On this same page - Bill Profile -  you can review a summary of the legislation, find out which Congressman introduced the legislation and which Congressmen supported the legislation via their sponsorship.  You can also see by name what Lobbyist worked on this legislation, find out who was their registering organization - because all lobbyist have to register by themselves or some group.  The lobbyist can also do the lobbying for like groups and these are also listed in connection to the lobbyist name.

It is a wonderful website - a non-profit supported by people like me and you- and they also sell this conglomerate of information to those who need it.  As they ask, if you do any quotes from it, they ask to give them credit for the information and the source of the data that you use from them - their form of getting credit where credit is due and a form of advertising their name in connection to what they do.

:Like I said, I am not posting this for any specific reason - just info and it is there if you ever want to look around or research a specific organization and the work they do along with their paid or unpaid lobbyist.

Enjoy

Thank you so very much for the link to this website.  I’ll readily admit that I was unaware that this website existed. 😊

Off topic - sorry, but after I saw  your “Roseanne Roseannadanna”, I had the sudden urge to re-watch her “King Tut” spiel.

….all these years later, Gilda still reigns as a comic genus.  She left us far too soon.

Watch - it’s good for the soul!          📺🌈🙋

That’s helpful thank you.  I’ve used that website in the past and I’d forgotten that name, thanks for re-jogging my memory on that!
