I recently pulled my carpet and noticed a few cracks running from where two slabs are meeting on a 1400 sqft home built in 2018. Is this normal wear and tear and would it have any negative impact if I lay marble tile?

2This question is similar to: Ceramic tile on concrete with shrinkage cracks and Is it normal to find cracks in new concrete?. If you believe it’s different, please edit the question, make it clear how it’s different and/or how the answers on that question are not helpful for your problem.isherwood– isherwood2025-12-08 18:00:13 +00:00Commented 2 days ago

I am voting to reopen this question. This question is not the same as the one listed. The old question refers to NEW concrete and asks if the cracks are normal. The OPs question is referring to cracking between 2 slabs in an established pour. They are as similar as apples and oranges as to say that both are fruits. Both questions are about cracks in concrete slabs, but vastly different in their content.RMDman– RMDman2025-12-09 15:14:57 +00:00Commented yesterday

There are many "ifs" surrounding a definitive answer here.
If your tile is real marble, there is a greater susceptibility to cracking. That is the same with any natural stone.
If you are using a marble look tile, that is a manufactured tile, it is much harder and can withstand slightly more movement before cracking.
Another important issue is the crack itself. If it is just a simple crack from curing or expansion that is not as bad as a crack from heaving or sinking. Those cracks will crack almost any type of tile. So if there is a height difference between opposing sides of the crack, that will need to be isolated.
Again, if you are using a natural stone marble, I would put down an isolation membrane over the cracks first. This will mitigate movement that can make tiles crack. If there is substantial movement you have another issue and the cracked tiles are secondary to a foundation problem.
