Every year on June 15th, communities around the globe come together to observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the abuse, neglect, and exploitation that many older adults face. Elder abuse is a significant issue that affects millions of older individuals worldwide, and WEAAD serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of protecting and respecting our elders.
Each November is National Family Caregivers Month. This is a month to recognize the challenges faced by family caregivers across the nation.
The Alabama Legislature convenes in March, and AARP Alabama plans to push several issues during the 2023 legislative session.
A new law will create a registry to single out people who have been implicated in cases of elder abuse.
As AARP Alabama looks ahead to the 2026 legislative session, we will once again be advocating for modernization of Alabama's outdated guardianship system.
