Meerut: A case has been registered against a 66-year-old woman from Rampur, UP, for allegedly providing false information about her two sons during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Although her sons have been living abroad—one in Dubai and the other in Kuwait—she claimed they were residing in India.
"Not only did Noorjahan conceal the international addresses of her sons, Aamir Khan and Danish Khan, she also allegedly forged their signatures on the survey form," said Rampur DM Ajay Kumar Dwivedi on Saturday. He added that the discrepancy was uncovered when the Block Level Officer (BLO) digitised the submitted data. The DM then ordered the case to be registered against Noorjahan and her sons.
The FIR was lodged at Civil Lines Police Station based on a survey supervisor's complaint, under BNS Sections 237 and 318(2), which relate to using false declarations and cheating, as well as Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which penalises submitting false statements in electoral rolls.
According to the revised SIR schedule issued by the Election Commission, BLOs have till Dec 11 to share the list of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate electors with booth level agents (BLAs) of political parties. The draft electoral roll will be published on Dec 16, and the final roll is scheduled for Feb 14.
