Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

CDBG Overview

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) develops viable urban communities and expands economic opportunities for low-to-moderate income people. Bexar County has broad discretion regarding how CDBG funds are utilized, however all activities must (1) benefit low- or moderate-income households, (2) prevent or eliminate slum or blight, or (3) meet a need having a particular urgency.

Eligible CDBG activities include:

  • Public Service Activities
  • Housing-Related Activities
  • Infrastructure and Public Improvements
  • General Administrative and Planning Activities

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT - CORONAVIRUS (CDBG-CV)


CDBG-CV OVERVIEW

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act of 2020 (CARES Act) provided for a supplemental appropriation of Community Development Block Grant funds to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the spread of COVID-19.

Bexar County is working with Meals on Wheels of San Antonio to deliver 434,738 home-delivered meals, along with wellness and home safety checks, to 795 seniors (age 62+) in unincorporated Bexar County and the following participating cities:

The County’s meal delivery program is designed to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections among seniors during the public health crisis.
