Music continues playing on mobile after disconnecting Bluetooth

We've received reports that when disconnecting Bluetooth from car systems and such, the playback automatically continues on the phone. This seems to be happening primarily on Android and in particular on Samsung Galaxy phones.

Today (24th November '25) when I got out of the car it correctly stopped the music two journeys in a row.

Not sure if it's fixed or a weird coincidence. I've not reinstalled or cleared cache or anything.

I think they have solved this problem.Hopefully the problem of not being able to use Spotify for hours will also be solved. I’ve had that happen twice in one week now. If it continues to work from now on, I will adjust my review. and I will remain a Premium listener.

I can confirm that the issue is solved for me as well, and I think it was solved in version 9.0.96.826, but only after it went live in play store, not during the beta, because I still had issues on the same version while it was in beta. Thanks to the moderators for the help!

My Question or Issue

I know there was a similar issue on Android phones, but I have issues with on my iPhone. I have updated iOS and Spotify.

The problem occurs when I am using my Bluetooth speaker or my AirPods. 

Scenario:
1. I play music on my Bluetooth speaker (or my AirPods).
2. I pause the music on my iPhone.
3. I power down my Bluetooth speaker (or put back my AirPods into the case and close the lid).
4. Music starts playing from speaker on my iPhone.

Can you please help and let me know how to stop music being resumed to play?

I noticed the music resumes only when my Spotify app is open. Eg. I pause the music in the app, and take of my AirPods, while the Spotify App is open.
Or when I will reopen the Spotify app quickly.

If I will pause the music on the widget, while the iPhone is still blocked, it is not resuming after disconnecting my AirPods.

The Spotify help system is useless. If there were a real competitor, I would toss Spotify to the curb in a minute.
