Community mourns father of three killed by alleged impaired driver in tragic crash

Family and friends of the victim, Julio Nave-Giron, console each other during the vigil.

Family and friends gathered at the intersection of Sixth Street and St. Louis Ave. to honor 46-year-old Julio Nave-Giron, who died after an alleged impaired driver crashed into him.

Nave-Giron leaves behind three teenage sons, a wife, and his mother, all of whom described him as the sole provider and a dedicated father.

"He was my dad, but he was also my best friend, and today I know what it feels like to lose both, a best friend and a dad," said 18-year-old Julio Jr., recalling the moment he learned of his father's death.

Julio Jr. said he had spoken to his father just 10 minutes before the crash, as Nave-Giron was on his way home from work. Metro reports the alleged impaired driver failed to stop at the intersection, hitting Nave-Giron's car and sending it into a nearby fence.

Julio's mother, Elizabeth, expressed her grief, saying this is the second child she's lost.

"I'm going to really, really miss him, and I need him a lot," she said. "I never thought I was going to bury a second child."

Nave-Giron was remembered as funny, outgoing, and an incredible cook.

His 15-year-old son, Issac, shared a cherished memory: "Probably my most favorite memory is listening to Linkin Park as we're picking up my brother from work, very simple moment, but it has a special place in my heart."

His wife, Sarita Moreno, described him as her best friend, her partner, her life, and her world.

"He was everything to me," she said.

She called for action against reckless and impaired driving.

"We need to get some kind of stop to these people drinking and driving behind the wheel, because a family loses a person that they loved," she said.

The family vowed to fight for justice and continue their plea to the community to stop impaired driving.

"That kind of thing took my dad; he was a great person, I'm going to miss him very much," Julio Jr. said.

Metro reports that the suspect, 41-year-old Rogelio Camacho, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on reckless driving and DUI-related charges.
