The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is hosting the "Operation Holiday Cheer" toy drive to benefit St. Jude's Ranch for Children.

The community was encouraged to visit, greet officers, and donate new, unwrapped toys.

Christina Vela, CEO of St. Jude's Ranch for Children, emphasized the dual nature of the holiday season for children in foster care.

"The holidays are a great time to celebrate and gather," Vela said, "but can be stressful for kids who are living in foster care."

For eight years, this event has aimed to ensure that children and teens not living with their families can enjoy the holiday season.

LVMPD Captain Xan Weir attended the event and says, "This is a partnership that we've had for 8 years." We bring out a lot of officers and civilian employees and our children."

"Operation Holiday Cheer" depends on community generosity to bring smiles to the most vulnerable children.
